Nebaj to Todos Santos 4 Day Trek

A fascinating 4 day hike from Nebaj to Todos Santos, passing through remote villages from 3 different ethnic groups (Ixil, K´iche, and Mam). 

On the first day we travel in our van from Xela to Nebaj, where we spend the night in a local hotel.  On the second and third days we hike through several small villages where you spend the night with local families.  You arrive in Todos Santos at noon on the fourth day. 

From Todos Santos we return to Xela or you can spend more time exploring the region and we will deliver your bags and luggage to Todos Santos.
Note: This trek can also be done from Todos Santos to Nebaj.

Xela to Lake Atitlan Trek

An amazing off the beaten path hike from Xela to beautiful Lake Atitlan for a total of 42km.  The first day after a short drive from Xela we hike up through a forest slope to a grasslands plateau, passing through cornfields, and remove villages accessible only by foot, where we spend the night we a local family. 

The next day we pass through 2 remote river valleys and cloud forest and spend the night with a local family in a village overlooking Lake Atitlan.  After watching an early morning sunrise over the lake we hike down to the lake for a swim and end in San Pedro.  After lunch we pick you up and bring you back to Xela or you can continue your travels and we will bring your luggage to San Pedro.

Volcan Santiaguito Crater Overnight

CURRENTLY CLOSED DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS

 

An amazing trek to Volcan Santiaguito, one of the 10 most active volcanoes in the world.  Camp in an inactive crater just 400meters from the active crater, see lava and ash spew from the frequent eruptions.  A once in a lifetime experience.  We leave from our office at 7am and drive half an hour to the trailhead. 

From there we hike for approximately 8 hours and set up camp in a inactive crater.  We have dinner, watch the sunset and watch eruptions into the night.   After breakfast we pack up and descend for the bus ride back to Xela arriving at 5pm.

VolcanSantiaguito Lookout

An easy half day trip to a lookout point overlooking Volcan Santiaguito, Guatemala´s most active volcano.  We pick you up at your hotel or host family at 6:00am and drive half an hour to the trail head.  From there it takes approximately 2 hours to climb to the lookout point and 1 ½  hours to descend.

La Muela- Cerro Candelaria

Half day hike to Volcan Candelaria and lava flows from 1780 and 1818 eruptions, with excellent views of Xela and the surrounding countryside. Visit natural volcanic steam vents and saunas. We leave from the office at 7am and return by 1pm.

Level: Easy-Moderate

Volcan Tajumulco Overnight

Volcan Taumulco is a moderate to difficult overnight hike climbing from 3,000m at the trailhead to the peak at 4,220m (almost 14,000ft) the highest point in Central America. From the top of Tajumulco there are panoramic views of the western highland, the Pacific coast and Mexico. We leave from our office at 6am and take public transportation to the trailhead. 

From there we hike for approximately 4hours and set up camp in a sheltered bowl 45 minutes from the summit.  We have dinner around a campfire and watch the sunset.  In the morning we climb to the top before dawn to see an amazing sunrise.  After breakfast we pack up and descend for the bus ride back to Xela.

Level: Moderate-Difficult

Volcan Laguna de Chicabal

Volcan Laguna de Chicabal is an easy to moderate day hike to a beautiful crater lake. We pick you up at your hotel or host family at 6:00am and drive an hour to the trail head.  From there it takes approximately 1 and a half hours to climb to the top at 2,900m (almost 10,000ft) where there is a lookout point to Volcan Santa Maria and Santiaguito. 

From the summit there is a steep descent for twenty minutes to the crater lake.  The lake is surrounded by cloud forest and is a sacred site to the local Mayan-Mam people.  There are often religious ceremonies taking place around the lake.

Level: Easy-Moderate (can also be done as an overnight trip)
